Kacy Wiggins, who records his solo excursions in quirky dubwise ambience as Quiet Personal Electronics (or qpe), is a rare breed of musician. Where most electronica artists hide behind funky bombast or cool, digital distance, Wiggins seduces with gentleness, warmth and goodheartedness. Not quite downtempo, not quite dub, definitely not drum'n'bass and definitely not lounge, his music is effortlessly enjoyable but difficult to parse. His label calls the music "hip hop nouveau," but while that term captures the funky matrix in which everything on this album floats, it doesn't do justice, for example, to either the textural pointillism of "Mirrored" or the loping swing of "Lapland". This music is the aural equivalent of the really smart, kind of geeky kid you knew in high school, the one who seemed to know everything but whom no one resented because he was kind and self-deprecating and funny. Makes you wonder if that's what Kacy Wiggins is like. If not, he sure knows how to fake it.

Drawings by KAKUDJI : DO IT (if you dare) | News & Announcements | See info below

DO IT (if You dare)

is a super-Flux project which presents selected artists who present themselves. The artists of 'DO IT (if You dare)' are selected by super-Flux on the basis of their original attitude and courage in comparison to mainstream contemporary artists.

In May 2005 I began a project which consisted in sending family and friends a daily image of my thoughts. From the months of May 2005 - June 2005 and then from Oct. 2005 - Dec. 2005 ; I made drawings almost every day - on small A4 papers, which I would then send to everyone the same day. It all began, because I got tired of people asking me "when is your next show?" . so, I said to myself, "why wait till the next show to show people my work ?"; so, I decided to bring the show to the people.

Ulysses + Nicklcat "Make you feel good" New Release | See links and info. below

Mbf12017lg_1MBF Records #12017 is out now!

ULYSSES + NICKLCAT
"Make You Feel Good"

A: Make You Feel Good
B: Polaris

Teaming up with new vocal talent Nick Hallett, underground New York super producer Ulysses brings you two new tracks on Traum Schallplatten's MBF imprint. It's two songs are an intriguing mix of Deep House, Electro, Pop and Acid. Featuring Nick's sweet vocals – compared by some as reminiscent of Marc Almond and Jimmy Sommerville (of Bronski Beat fame) – It simultaneously looks forwards and backwards. The title track uplifts as it moves the feet: deep 808 kicks, scronky hooks, spaced out effects and beautiful melodies all collide into a unique miasma of sound. It's a truly progressive piece of music. The B side, "Polaris," takes things to a darker realm, with burbling bass lines and operatic harmonies. It's a soundtrack for chasing unrequited love through outer space.

hello people

here is some news:

METEOSOUND IS A DIVISION OF SHITKATAPULT !!!

SHITKATAPULT and METEOSOUND have shared the same office, work and music feelings for many years and after working together for a long time, finally it's official: METEOSOUND IS NOW A DIVISION OF SHITKATAPULT !!!

with this step we will associate the label meteosound to shitkatapult in respect to management, production, distribution, communication etc.

the artistic choices of the labels will preserve the same taste: SHITKATAPULT for everything quirky, strange, noisy, rocky or whatever there is in terms of special music for special people. METEOSOUND for moving dub more and more towards electronic and contemporary music, soul and city - we can define it, with a newborn term, as soul city dub.

Q & A from Kevin Saunderson on FUSE 2006 | See below for details

Images_5Ladies and Gentleman;

I know many of you want to know what’s going on with the festival for 2006. I cannot tell you for sure, but I have been told that the City of Detroit is in negotiation right now and are only considering companies that can pay for the festival expenses out right. Which I believe is a wise decision. This festival needs financial stability. Unfortunately with our greatest efforts, we could not achieve what was necessary to continue to produce the festival in 2006. Here are some of the facts why, questions and answers:

Q: How many people attended the festival this year?
A: We sold 41,000 tickets this year. That translates to 37,000 1 day tickets and 4,000 Multi day tickets.

Q: Are the numbers down from previous years?
A: Yes, but just slightly. Comparing beer revenues from 2004 to 2005 suggests we really only had approximately 50,000 people in 2004. This does represent a small decline.

Q: So was the festival successful? It sounds like you a lot less people than in the past.
A: Considering the planning window we had put this thing together, we think the festival was incredibly successful. In addition, our numbers this year, and the fact that Hart Plaza capacity is less than previously thought suggest that our earlier festivals did not have 1,000,000 people in attendance as previously reported.

Q: Did charging for the festival have a big impact?

Remembering J Dilla aka James Yancey

Images5Friday Feb 10th 2006

J Dilla, aka James Yancey, one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time passed away early this morning in Los Angeles, California.  J Dilla will be remembered for his contributions to Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip, Common and beyond.

The entire staff and associates of BBE Records would like to offer their sincere condolences to the family of James Yancey for their recent bereavement.

Peter Adarkwah, the founder of BBE Records said he was "deeply saddened by the news. Jay was one of my favorite Hip-Hop producers of all time. His passion for music was a rare thing amongst people in the music industry. His music and presence will be sorely missed for many years to come."

The album he was working on, the follow up to "Welcome To Detroit," entitled "The Shining" was scheduled for a June release on BBE.
