Kacy Wiggins, who records his solo excursions in quirky dubwise
ambience as Quiet Personal Electronics (or qpe), is a rare breed of
musician. Where most electronica artists hide behind funky bombast or
cool, digital distance, Wiggins seduces with gentleness, warmth and
goodheartedness. Not quite downtempo, not quite dub, definitely not
drum'n'bass and definitely not lounge, his music is effortlessly
enjoyable but difficult to parse. His label calls the music "hip hop
nouveau," but while that term captures the funky matrix in which
everything on this album floats, it doesn't do justice, for example, to
either the textural pointillism of "Mirrored" or the loping swing of
"Lapland". This music is the aural equivalent of the really smart, kind
of geeky kid you knew in high school, the one who seemed to know
everything but whom no one resented because he was kind and
self-deprecating and funny. Makes you wonder if that's what Kacy
Wiggins is like. If not, he sure knows how to fake it.

Project Conversations unites a diverse group of artists, both individuals and groups. It is not governed by a common structured concept, but is mainly concerned with a different way of thinking or contemplation on art and society, in terms of their functioning, collective work and reflection. Thus a special social space is created where no single language of truth is prevalent. Instead it enables the transformation of the voice of the other. And since all meaning is relative and provisional, there is a certain tension which points to other possible contexts as well.
Pogovarjanja / Conversations / Conversas is a part of On Difference2 project http://www.wkv-stuttgart.de

JUSTUS KÖHNCKE
Hailing from Cologne, Germany the multi-talented Justus Köhncke is a sponge and seems to have soaked the whole history of pop music with all it's inherent, structural beauty and styles perfectly combining Kompakt's techno message with disco jewels of the last three decades. This man is full of knowledge and somewhat prone to regular, scientific analyses of his all-time, most favorite songs.
You are invited to the opening of 'Leaving on a flat-bed picture plane' this Friday 17 February, 7 to 9 pm at Unit 201, 54-58 Kingsland Road, London E2 8DP (Old St tube)

MAN - New album 'Helping Hand' (Sub Rosa) OUT NOW
With this new personal album the press hasn't found yet a musical qualification ! But most of the critics afford to say that 'Helping Hand' is over the ranges and should simply be called HUMAN MUSIC !
Musical Range : Max Richter - Tuxedomoon - David Lynch - Tortoise - To Rococo Rot - World's End Girlfriend - Michel Gondry - Ennio Morricone - Stanley Kubrick - Constellation Rec - Mark Hollis - Visconti - Yann Tiersen - Harold Budd - Eric Satie - Kranky - Colleen - Keith Jarrett...
MAN is a free two-headed man, each head listening to the other, working as one with the music. A duo consisting of French multi-instrumentalists François Rasim Biyikli (piano, Rhodes, melodica, guitars, noises) and Charles-Eric Charrier (acoustic bass, guitar, toys), MAN produces a rare and elegant form of electroacoustic music that touches bases with unchartered territories where anything is possible.
Disquieting and friendly, absent yet abominably present, the duo achieves an even more liberated form of music on this third opus. After two instrumental albums for Les Disques du Soleil et de l’Acier (‘Man’ and ‘Main Gauche’), three years spent playing concerts throughout Europe and multiple collaborations in film (about a dozen original soundtracks), fashion, television, theatre, dance and visual arts, MAN comes out of a 12-month creative period and is finally back.

Two new 12" releases from BPitch Control for the cold February - Mark Broom "From London with love" (release date: February 6) and Modeselektor "The Hello Mom Remixes" (release date February 20).
On the title track "Twenty Nine" Techno is re-arranged in a grand gesture by embracing electronica and spheric soundscapes. "Together" primarily aims at the distribution of serotonin before it gets to your feet - but once it does, it lasts.
"Rock'n'Roller" reminds of surreal dreams of an acid-driven robot where the four tends to get stuck.
One could say that Modeselektor are as happy about the reception of their debut album Hello Mom among the population as Germanys First Lady is about her election victory. "We want to serve the record consumers", they say and do it in a statesmanlike pose by ordering reform oriented remixes of all their vocal tracks from the album, that are executed by a great coalition of mysterious artists like Sleeparchive, Siriusmo, Dabrye and XXXX.

Two or Three or Something.
Maria Lassnig, Liz Larner
Kunsthaus Graz presents "Two or Three or Something. Maria Lassnig, Liz Larner", an exhibition which investigates painterly and sculptural vocabularies as elaborated in the work of two distinguished women artists, Austrian, Maria Lassnig (born in 1919) and Californian, Liz Larner (born in 1960). The entire oeuvre of these two artists is a profound analysis of human psyche, executed with a particular sensibility towards the formal language.
In her monumental sculptures and installations, Liz Larner depicts "the world not just as a given... (but) as a construction" whereas Maria Lassnig in her introspective paintings takes on an investigation into the truth of human emotions and bodily sensations. In both cases, materials, their texture and volume as well as colours, their significance and intensity seem to play a major role in constructing a physical and mental space and the entire architectonics of sensuality.

In collaboration with DIAGONALE
On Saturday, February 11th at Fargfabriken, 8 pm.
Fargfabriken is proud to present The Charley Party.
One in a series of events within the 4th Berlin biennial.
The curatorial trio - the artist Maurizio Cattelan, the curator and art critic Massimiliano Gioni and the curator and writer Ali Subotnick - will together with Fargfabriken host a party, present the immense publication Checkpoint Charley and present the swedish artists selected for the biennial. Cattelan, Gioni and Subotnick are also the trio behind The Wrong Gallery ("a back door to the contemporary art world, and it is always locked"), that recently moved from Chelsea to Tate Modern.
At 9.30 p.m. Massimiliano Gioni will give an unique speach about the 4th Berlin biennial, the collaboration with Fargfabriken and also present the immense publication Checkpoint Charley. Also an introduction of the swedish artists selected for the biennial, Felix Gmelin, Nathalie Djurberg and Klara Liden/Bajki.
Checkpoint Charley was born out of the research conducted by the curators. The publication brings together images produced by more than 700 artists encountered in studios, found in catalogues, and recommended by friends and colleagues.
