My career in electronic music began in the realm of the academic. I studied composition at the Oberlin Music Conservatory and wrote material for orchestras and string quartets. It was somewhat frustrating to have a disconnection that could last sometimes months to hear a piece you wrote on paper played by other human beings. So, I started experimenting with electronic music because of the immediacy of it. I did some sound design for theater and some abstract pieces for new music concerts. Eventually I started hanging out with Dei, Dave Turov and David Todd at their 'Diaspora' night in Williamsburg a few years back and started getting into the minimal techno they were playing. At the time I was playing in a goofy, but fun electro band called De-regulator that was playing around New York a lot. I did a lot of the production, as did my partner Sam Burns. As all this was going on i got invited to perform at this "International Congress for Performance Art" in Berlin ... which went really well. I came back with a lot of records and began doing as much production as I could. I wear a lot of different hats and try to get involved in as many projects as i can. It just keeps me going.
